1954. Merger On May 1, 1954, Nash-Kelvinator Corp. and Hudson Motor Car Co. were merged to form American Motors Corp., with George W. Mason (center) as chairman of the board and president. A.E. Barit,(left) retiring Hudson president, became a Director and consultant. George Romney (right) was named executive vice-president. Upon the untimely death in October, 1954 of Mr. Mason, Mr. Romney was elected president and chairman. |

1954 Metropolitan 541. Nash In March, 1954, Nash introduced a completely new small car, built in England by Austin and Fisher-Ludlow, to Nash specifications. With an 85-inch wheelbase, it had a 42-hp. engine which offered up to 40 miles per gallon. A two-door hardtop also was available. |
